Vice President, Computer Training Services, The Carroll Center for the Blind Brian Charlson has been instrumental in developing the training program for the Adaptive Technology Center. His work has led to the successful employment of many persons with visual impairment who had been considered unemployable. Previously, Brian was a Vice President of Talking Computer Systems. He also served as Assistant Sergeant at Arms during three terms of the Oregon State Legislature. Brian has used his nationally recognized leadership and consensus building skills to advance the employment and education of persons who are blind through the use of adaptive technology. He is currently a director and Chairman of the Budget Committee, American Council of the Blind (ACB); member, Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB); Chair, Information Access Task Force, (Washington, DC); member, Statutory Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind; and a member of the World Blind Union North American Regional Board. Brian is also Chair of the Rehabilitation Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, the Consumer Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Assistive Technology Partnership (MATP), and the Watertown Commission on Disability
David Parmenter has over 20 years of experience in building and managing software development teams. He was one of the chief engineers for Dragon NaturallySpeaking, the revolutionary speech recognition product from Dragon Systems, now part of Nuance Corporation. David designed and implemented Dragon's unique error correction mechanism. Subsequently, he ran the engineering group and oversaw three major releases of Dragon NaturallySpeaking as well as Dragon Point & Speak; Dragon NaturallyMobile; and Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Teens (a version for young people). He oversaw their introduction into many different languages. Later, at Basis Technology Corp., David created the Japanese Morphological Analyzer, used by a large number of top-tier search engines. Prior to Dragon Systems, David was a senior consultant for Charles View Software, creating several popular add-ins for Microsoft Word, among others. He holds two patents, with several others applied for. David is now working at Adobe Systems where he manages the Acrobat Acrobat website. |
